If Walt Disney World is where dreams come true, Toft’s Ice Cream in Sandusky, Ohio, is where ice cream dreams come true.
A perfect spot for natives and tourists alike, Toft’s is a local tradition, a must-have, a reliable favorite. With its quirky Ohio-related flavor names and seemingly endless tubs of yummy options, this ice cream shop is one of the few establishments that I will genuinely look forward to visiting when I no longer live in the area. A visit to Toft’s always includes tough life decisions (i.e. peanut butter pretzel or peanut butter chunk???), but happy tummies, nonetheless.
What to order: R.I.P. to my favorite flavor, Philadelphia Freedom Mint, which was discontinued a few years ago. Not to worry, though – there are cases upon cases of unique flavors. If you’re new to the Sandusky area or Ohio in general, try Buckeye Bites – vanilla with chocolate peanut butter “buckeyes.” (This has been my brother’s go-to flavor since the beginning of time.) Other notable options include Java Chip, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Pretzel and Banana Peanut Butter Chunk.
Disclaimer: Please, please, please take my advice: Order a small. You’ll thank me later.
